February musings on Howard Dean With less than 4 days before the Super Tuesday primaries, people are still talking about presidential candidate Howard Dean. I found two articles that provide some interesting overviews of what really happened to his campaign: How the Dems Did In Howard Dean By Ciro Scotti, Business Week http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/feb2004/nf20040225_4752_db009.htm The Kerry Cascade- How a '50s psychology experiment can explain the Democratic primaries. By Duncan Watts, Slate http://slate.msn.com/id/2095993/ What most people aren’t aware of is that voters participating in the upcoming primaries can still vote for Howard Dean, and there are some excellent reasons why they should. To quote Governor Dean: "We are still on the ballots. Sending delegates to the convention only continues to energize our party. Fight on in the caucuses. Use your network to send progressive delegates to the convention in Boston. We are not go
Bin Laden 'surrounded'… (but NOT captured??) February 22, 2004 A British Sunday newspaper is claiming Osama bin Laden has been found and is surrounded by US special forces in an area of land bordering north-west Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Sunday Express, known for its sometimes colourful scoops, claims the al-Qaeda leader has been "sighted" for the first time since 2001 and is being monitored by satellite. The paper claims he is in a mountainous area to the north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is said to be peopled with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to also have 50 of his fanatical bodyguards with him. The claim is attributed to "a well-placed intelligence source" in Washington, who is quoted as saying: "He (bin Laden) is boxed in." The paper says the hostile terrain makes an all-out conventional military assault impossible. The plan to capture him would depend on a "grab-him-
Howard Dean Lives!...or...an Awkward Thing Happened on the Way to the White House Today, Howard Dean announced that he would be no longer be actively pursuing the presidency. While I've got a lot of mixed emotions over this decision, it's nothing that I didn’t expect. For the past month, we've been getting bombarded with early obituaries of the Dean campaign in all types of mainstream media. The powers-that-be flexed their muscles, and did their part to to squelch the idealist vision offered by the former governor of Vermont. There will undoubtably be no shortage of articles in the next few months that will attempt to dissect the autopsy of the Dean campaign. There are three articles I can recommend right now for those that seek the truth about how this campaign unraveled: The Assassination of Howard Dean By Naeem Mohaiemen, AlterNet http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=17881 The Awesome Power of the Corporate Media Power By The Black Comme
MORE SLIME- Bush abortion from 1970's to be exposed! from the New York Daily News, dated Tuesday, February 17th, 2004 Activist rocker Moby raised Republican hackles last week when he advised President Bush 's enemies to engage in political mischief. Moby told my fellow gossips Rush & Molloy : "For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you're an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion." Now the incorrigible Larry Flynt says he plans to market a Bush abortion story as genuine - in a book to be published this summer by Kensington Press. "This story has got to come out," the wheelchair-bound Hustler magazine honcho told the Daily News' Corky Siemaszko . "There's a lot of hypocrisy in the White House about this whole abortion issue." Flynt claimed that Bush arranged for the procedure in the earl
Costco is NOT like Wal-Mart In a time when anti-union corporations like Wal-Mart are changing the dynamics of the American economy with extremely controversial methods, it’s a breath of fresh air to learn that Costco is able to offer low prices for the consumers, and fair labor practices for their employees. In a February 15th issue of the Los Angeles , an article states: The chief executive of Costco Wholesale Corp., a warehouse club retailer with 430 stores, likes to boast of his company's relatively high pay and benefits for its 92,000 employees. "We pay better than the supermarkets, and we pay much better than Wal-Mart," Sinegal says. "That's not altruism," he continues. "It's good business." The numbers seem to back him up. Costco's labor costs amount to 7% of its $42 billion in annual sales, a key industry yardstick. By comparison, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s cost of labor stands at about 12% of its $244 billion in rev
An innocent man may die on California's death row A man sits on death row, waiting to die for a crime he claims he did not commit. There's substantial evidence that demonstrates that he did not receive a fair trial, but unless Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger or a higher court puts a stop to the execution, this man will die on Tuesday, February 10th. Kevin Cooper is an inmate on death row at San Quentin State Prison. In 1985 he was convicted of the murder of the Ryen family and a houseguest in San Bernadino county. Much evidence has come forward that was never tested or presented before the jury at Kevin Cooper's trial that could possibly challenge his conviction. The state's case against Kevin Cooper is full of holes, and he has always maintained his innocence. There are also issues of racism , poverty, and police misconduct in this case. Here are just a few of the facts: Clumps of long, blonde hair were found in the hands of one of the victims. Photog

A Short History Lesson of a BAD GUY Eric Blumrich of BushFlash created an excellent shockwave movie that provided an excellent historic overview of a famous "evil-doer." TAKE A LOOK A THIS ! Remember, over 8,000 Iraqis and 500 American soldiers were killed because of threats of "weapons of mass destruction." As the weapons couldn't be found, the motive was changed to something else to justify this war. I personally don't see how any intelligent person could ever justify this war. According to Daily Kos things are not getting any better in Iraq: January turned out to be the second-deadliest month since "major combat operations" ceased, to be replaced with -- our troops in the field were glad to hear it -- "minor" combat operations. We lost 45 soldiers to Bush's folly, and the Brits another five. 196 US soldiers were wounded. Is this how we get rid of terrorism? Do we shake up the hornet's nest
