Quick Quiz A Quick Quiz, courtesy of Daily Kos : by Tom Schaller Sun May 30th, 2004 at 14:26:42 EDT Which of the following three claims are true? 1) John Kerry is one of the if not the most consistently liberal Senators, even more consistently liberal than (nasty music here) Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy. 2) John Kerry is a major flip-flopper who changes his positions 180 degrees faster than the Car Talk hosts can change a flat tire. 3) I dunno about Nos. 1 or 2, but I do know that they both can't be true. Answer, of course: #3. And yet, folks, aren't these the two versions of spin the Bush-Cheney WMD (Wistful for Major Distortions) campaign against the Senator? Spin away if you must, fellas. But at least try to make sure the spin itself is something more than the most consistently conservative flip-flop of all time. It's insulting.

The Temporary President from the Dean Nation blog: Temporary was George W. Bush's nickname in the Skull and Bones Society at Yale. Why? Because he was too lazy to think of one for himself: [Bush], never fond of Eastern elitism, seriously considered joining a different secret society at Yale less known for ancient rituals than for its parties. Although he acceded to his father's wishes, he became a relatively unenthusiastic member who did not even bother thinking up the requisite Bones name for himself. He ended up being called Temporary Given the latest polls , I think it still fits. In fact, given Bush's governing style, it really fits. I think a Google-bomb is in order. Repeat after me, "George W. Bush: the Temporary President."

Rock ‘n’ Roll, Politics and the U.S. Government I haven’t done much blogging lately, as I’ve had more pressing needs these days. A few days ago, my friend Veralynne of A-Changin’ Times alerted me to a recent book titled “We All Want to Change the World: Rock and Politics from Elvis to Eminem” written by Tom Waldman and Donovan Leitch, aka Mr. “Sunshine Superman.” This sounds like an interesting book. I certainly love the title. If anyone wants to send me a copy, I’ll be happy to read it. Today, I stumbled across a page that provides government documentation on the rock music that was played during the forced removal of General Manuel Noriega from Panama in 1989. I was actually surprised by the choice of music that was played. A lot of this music was stuff I really enjoy like the Beatles, XTC, Todd Rundgren, Allman Brothers, and Bobby Fuller. I figured they really wanted to drive Noriega nuts, they could have played things like “Achy Breaky Heart” or “Hotel C
